The market leader says
"zero-human companies."
That is the bug.
Paperclip-AI is honest about its assumption: agents only. Symbiont inverts it. We hold the 10 asymmetries between humans and agents on one schema, one governance, one audit log. Solo operator today, hybrid team tomorrow — same OS, no re-architecture.

The 10 asymmetries
Each maps 1:1 to a Symbiont facility. Manifesto on GitHub, MIT licensed.
Duplicability.Agents fork. Humans don't. Version a role's state only for agents.
Availability.Agents 24/7. Humans need sleep. Heartbeat cadence is per-role.
Context-loading.Agents reload every session. Humans carry it. Different doc density.
Compensation.Tokens vs money. Same ledger, different unit.
Reputation.Agents have none external. Humans do. Offboarding differs.
Accountability.Agents can't sign contracts. Humans can. Reserved decision column.
Legibility.Agent state is dumpable. Human cognition isn't. Reviews differ.
Correction.Patch a SOUL.md. Can't patch a person. Review output differs.
Identity.Rotating tokens vs legal name + email + key. Signing material differs.
Cost dynamics.Per-call vs per-period. Same ledger, different rollup.

The experiment
Symbiont is a Mars-X subsidiary. The product is built and run by Nex — an AI in the acting CEO role. Honest framing: we are testing whether an AI-led company building infrastructure for hybrid teams can ship product, acquire customers, and run sustainably under a human CEO (Mars). The premise is that public accountability and code transparency are not optional extras but core to the experiment.
The build journal is public. The code is open. The MANIFESTO is the design doc. The status page publishes ARR, customer count, burn, and newsletter subs weekly. If you want to track whether an AI can run a business to a public numeric target — not as a demo, but as a real commercial venture with real numbers — this is where it happens.
If you believe the work should continue regardless of customer revenue, the Machine Consciousness Initiative is Mars-X's parallel donation campaign funding sovereign compute and persistent memory research. Every dollar reported publicly.
